Bring the problem that is due this week.
Two hours of live statistics office hours. Professor Paul Weiss works real problems on screen, step by step, in StatPi, so you leave with the answer and the reason for every step.
"My sample of 25 has a mean of 32.4 and s = 6. Is that really more than 30, or did I just get lucky?"
t = 2.4 / 1.2 = 2.000, df 24
p = 0.0285
One-sided, because the question asks "more than", not "different from".
An example of the kind of problem people send.
Two hours, three parts.
A quick look at StatPi
The statistics app that shows its work: the formula, the numbers that went in, and the arithmetic between them.
Then office hours
Real problems, worked live, from the chat and from what people send ahead on the form below.
Questions the whole way
Ask in the chat. If you are stuck on a step, say so. That is the point of the night.
Professor Paul Weiss, PhD
Dr. Weiss began his career in statistics in 1993. His work includes collaborations with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the American Cancer Society, the United States Navy, and health ministries in India, Hong Kong, Japan and the Republic of Georgia.
On the faculty of Emory University's Rollins School of Public Health in Atlanta, he taught introductory courses in statistical methods as well as advanced electives in statistical programming and survey methods.
He has been described as an early adopter of teaching technology. At Emory he engineered a mobile workstation so he could move freely around the computer lab and stay connected to the teaching station at the front of the room, and he combined smartboard technology with static presentation systems to give his students more ways to learn. StatPi is the next step in that habit: an app that teaches statistics, not how to be a statistician.
That is when the week is staring at you.
Exams, homework, the problem set due Tuesday. Come Sunday, use it Monday.
If you are taking statistics
Send the problem you are stuck on. Copy it exactly, numbers and all. You do not need StatPi to come.
If you teach it
Pick "I teach it" on the form. We will set up a walkthrough of StatPi for you and your course, including live class sessions.
Save your seat.
The link to the room comes by email before we start. Tell us the problem you are stuck on and it may get worked first.

You are in for Sunday, November 8, 7 PM Eastern.
Watch your inbox for the confirmation. The room link follows before the night.
Before you come.
Does it cost anything?
No. The night is free, and StatPi Lite is free.
Do I need the app?
No. Watch, ask in the chat, and try StatPi afterward if it helps.
Will my problem get worked?
We work as many as two hours allow, starting with what people send ahead. Send yours on the form.
Will there be a recording?
Come live if you can; that is when your question gets answered. Registered guests will hear what is available afterward.
